JAKARTA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships kicked off in Jakarta, Indonesia on Sunday.
The opening day featured six subdivisions of men's qualification, where Japan's three-time gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Shinnosuke Oka, made several errors in his routines, while his teammate Hashimoto Daiki delivered a steady performance to take the early lead.
This year's championships, running from Oct. 19 to 25, feature no team events and will produce 12 individual titles, including the men's and women's all-around and 10 apparatus finals.
According to the competition schedule, qualification runs from Sunday to Tuesday. The Chinese men's team will begin on the rings on Monday, and the Chinese women's team will start on the balance beam on Tuesday. Each team can enter up to three gymnasts per apparatus, with a maximum of two advancing to the finals.
The men's all-around final is set for Wednesday, the women's on Thursday, followed by apparatus finals on Friday and Saturday. ■
