SYDNEY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Taipei beat India 3-1 in their final group stage game at the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup on Tuesday night to set up a quarterfinal clash with China's Steel Roses on Saturday.
Chinese Taipei took the lead in the 12th minute through Su Yu-hsuan, but a 39th minute free kick off the underside of the crossbar from Manisha Kalyan drew India level before an own goal in first half stoppage time and a 77th minute Chen Yu-chin strike guaranteed victory.
The win secured second place in Group C for Chinese Taipei and progression to the quarterfinals, where they will face China, who beat the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) 2-1 on Monday night to claim top spot in Group B, at Perth Rectangular Stadium in Western Australia on Saturday afternoon local time.
The winner of that match will play the winner of the quarterfinal between host nation Australia and DPRK in the semifinals in Perth on March 17.
In the other Group C match on Tuesday night, Japan eliminated Vietnam from the tournament with a 4-0 victory.
Vietnam entered the match with a chance of reaching the quarterfinals as one of the two best-ranked third-place teams, but the goal difference swing means that Uzbekistan and the Philippines will advance.
As the Group C winners, Japan will play the Philippines in the quarterfinals at Sydney's Stadium Australia on Sunday evening.
On the same side of the draw, South Korea will play against Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals at Stadium Australia on Saturday night, with the winner to face Japan or the Philippines in the semifinals on March 18 before the final on March 21. ■
