BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland has allowed qualified Taiwan lawyers to represent clients in more types of civil cases.
The Ministry of Justice on Wednesday issued a notice concerning Taiwan residents who have passed the mainland's legal professional qualification exam and obtained lawyer practicing certificates to serve as agents in Taiwan-related civil cases in mainland courts.
Starting from Dec. 3, the scope of such civil cases will expand from the previous 237 items to 299, with 62 new additions, including disputes in maritime affairs and maritime commerce, personality rights, property rights, and competition-related matters, according to Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
"The measure will create more opportunities for Taiwan legal professionals to land jobs on the mainland and participate in the cross-Strait legal service market," she said. ■
