BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo and Gremio are leading the race to sign Independiente Rivadavia winger Sebastian Villa, according to media reports in Argentina.
Newly crowned Copa Libertadores champion Flamengo has already submitted a bid of eight million U.S. dollars for the Colombia international, TyC Sports reported on Wednesday. It added that Gremio has also made inquiries but has yet to present a formal offer.
Villa is tied to Independiente Rivadavia until December next year but is set to leave after reportedly falling out with club president Daniel Vila.
Since joining the club in July 2024 from Bulgarian side Beroe, the 29-year-old has made 60 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists.
In November, he helped the team win the Copa Argentina - the first major trophy in its 112-year history - by converting the decisive spot kick in a penalty shootout in the final against Argentinos Juniors. ■
