BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Montiel and Maximiliano Meza scored either side of halftime to fire River Plate to a 2-0 away win over Talleres Cordoba in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.
Argentina international right back Montiel put his side ahead with a low drive that ricocheted in off goalkeeper Guido Herrera.
Meza doubled the lead on the counterattack, smashing home a first-time effort after a fine run and cross from Facundo Colidio.
River is now fourth in Group B with 21 points, five behind leaders Lanus, while Talleres is 11th, seven points further back.
"Today it was very important to win," Montiel said after the match. "We knew we had to get the three points away from home against a very tough opponent, and thankfully we did it."
"We're not used to losing so many games like we have this season. This club is very demanding and we know that we have to do better."
In other Primera Division fixtures on Saturday, Boca Juniors suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Belgrano and Banfield won 2-1 at Independiente Rivadavia. ■
