WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Alexis Mac Allister and Lautaro Martinez scored two goals each as Argentina romped to a 6-0 friendly win over Puerto Rico on Tuesday.
Mac Allister opened the scoring with a reflex header from inside the six-yard box after Nicolas Gonzalez's miscued volley.
Gonzalo Montiel doubled the lead by volleying home following Lionel Messi's lofted pass before Mac Allister combined with Jose Manuel Lopez to slot in his side's third goal.
Puerto Rico gifted the reigning World Cup and Copa America champions another goal when Steven Echevarria unwittingly turned the ball into his own net.
Substitute Martinez struck twice in the last 15 minutes, the second a clinical shot into the far corner after Messi's clever layoff.
Puerto Rico rarely troubled Argentina's defense and went closest to scoring when Leandro Antonetti's speculative effort from inside his own half forced a fingertip save from goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
"It's always important to score goals, especially in preparation for a World Cup [next year] because we want to arrive in the best possible shape," Mac Allister said after the match.
"This result invigorates us and we felt the positive energy of the fans. It's always special to wear this shirt." ■
