KATHMANDU, May 16 (Xinhua) -- A cargo plane of Makalu Airlines has gone missing in the mid-western region of Nepal since Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.
The plane with two crew members on board took off from Surkhet at 6:12 a.m. local time and was heading to Humla district headquarters Simikot.
"The cargo plane was scheduled to land at 6:55 am at Simikot. But it went out of contact just few minutes before the landing," an official at Tribhuvan International Airport told Xinhua.
The pilot and the co-pilot were the only two persons onboard the aircraft.
Humla is one of the most remote and isolated districts in Karnali region of Nepal, which borders China. The district is accessible only through small aircrafts, while it is the last district of the country to be connected by road.
According to officials, helicopters have been mobilized for searching the cargo plane.
